Charter
I. Purpose
The purpose of the Center for Instructional Technology Advisory Board is to support the use of new technologies in teaching and learning in ways that are consistent with the University’s mission and values. To fulfill this purpose, the group will:
- Advise the Center for Instructional Technology on faculty and student needs and interests regarding instructional technology and help set goals for instructional technology initiatives;
- In consultation with the Office of Information Technology, the Library and technical support organizations in the departments and schools, make recommendations for services, facilities, resources and policies which help faculty make effective use of instructional technology and support student learning activities;
- Encourage university-wide information sharing and joint planning on instructional technology issues;
- Assist in ongoing efforts to assess the effectiveness of educational technologies for learning;
- Review and report annually to senior leadership and the Duke community on progress toward instructional technology goals.
II. Membership
The Center for Instructional Technology Advisory Board includes the following faculty, staff and student representatives:
- A faculty member representing each school, nominated by the Dean
- A faculty member at large, nominated by the Academic Council
- A representative of the Office of Information Technology, serving as a liaison to central IT support services, nominated by the Vice Provost for Information Technology
- A representative from the Library, nominated by the Vice-Provost for Library Affairs
- An undergraduate student, nominated by Duke Student Government
- A graduate student, nominated by the Graduate and Professional Students Council
- A member of the Information Technology Advisory Council serving as a liaison to that committee and nominated by the Steering Committee of ITAC
- A representative from the office of the Dean of Arts & Sciences
- Associate Dean for Arts & Sciences Information Science and Technology
- Director of the University Writing Program
Ex officio: Director of the Center for Instructional Technology
Members will serve two-year terms and may be reappointed.
