Directions: Come in the entrance to Perkins that is under the connector between Perkins and Bostock. Take the elevator to the 2nd floor. Turn left, go through the double doors and turn left again. The Tower Room is down the hall.

3. Discussion topic – new tools and their use in education [25 min.]
Web 2.0 tools (Background materials on Web 2.0 tools)
- What are faculty doing (or what might they want to do) with web-based tools, such as Google Earth and other Google Apps, JumpCut, FaceBook, Flickr, Juxta, wikis, blogs and other social networking and collaboration tools?
- Please bring examples and ideas from your department/ school or from things you’ve been hearing about at other institutions.
- What best practices might we want to recommend to instructors related to privacy, institutional data, etc?
Virtual Worlds (Background materials on Second Life virtual world software)
- What explorations, if any, are schools making of Second Life?
- Is anyone using other software tools for creating virtual worlds?
- What kind of support would you like to see around using virtual worlds in teaching and learning?
4. Determine future agenda items [5 min.]
Possibilities:
How can CIT help instructors to make good use of the new technology-enhanced classrooms that will open in Perkins Library and in other parts of campus?
What kinds of experiments would you be interested in doing related to use of mobile devices in teaching and learning?
What mix of speakers, training, grants, consulting and other support programs are most useful to faculty in each of the schools? Revisit the current options available through CIT and the Duke Digital Initiative and suggest any modifications needed.
What enhancements would make Blackboard and other software tools more useful to instructors and students?
What technologies would help support new courses and new activities that result from the Visual Studies Initiative, DukeEngage and other key initiatives in the Duke University strategic plan?
