Background
The FACIT program was successfully piloted in 2007-08 to allow CIT to connect with and hear from tenured faculty in A&S, so is being expanded in 2008-09 with invitations to all A&S departments. The program provides a way for a group of faculty to meet, to hear about CIT programs, provide feedback and information about their needs, and to communicate information back to their departments.
Program goals
- increase CIT's knowledge of needs and interests of tenured faculty in the largest undergraduate school at Duke with regard to instructional technology,
- build relationships between CIT, A&SIST and tenured A&S faculty,
- generate a communications conduit within A&S departments for two-way relay of information about instructional technology which, due to the departmental roles of the persons involved, may reach faculty and departmental administrators which CIT doesn't easily reach otherwise.
Member benefits
- meet three times each semester with CIT and other FACIT members from varied departments to discuss and learn about new technologies for teaching,
- receive early notice of new and up-coming technology initiatives at Duke such as DDI and CIT grants programs, and therefore, first chance to apply for available programs,
- provide CIT with valuable feedback about their and their colleagues’ technology needs,
- receive up to $200 per semester for attending all three meetings, deposited into a Duke account of their choice.
2008-2009 meetings
Program notes
- Members were solicited via communications with department chairs in late August 2008, and again via email to non-responding A&S department chairs in mid-September.
- At meetings, members received updates on CIT programs and services, shared information about their experiences teaching with various technologies or responded to CIT proposals for services or programs, gave feedback to guests from other relevant campus IT units, and connected with other members from across campus.
- Meeting notes are or will be linked from this page.
