Evernote is a free note taking and archiving software to save notes including audio and text files, images, websites and screen shots, and many other bits of digital information. These notes can then be sorted and organized into folders or notebooks that the user can tag, edit, search, and export.
Evernote can be accessed on multiple devices and in multiple ways. A user can download the program on any computer, get the app for mobile devices including the iPad, or access it on a web browser.
During the Fall 2011 semester, the French 119: Pleasure of Reading class used iPads to read e-books, newspapers, magazines, and blogs. In addition to their reading, students used Evernote on their iPads to take notes about their readings. Their notes were rich reflections that include text, audio, and images. Students could easily access their notes on an iPad, smart phone, or computer and also shared them with the rest of the class. Here are some example notes taken using Evernote:
