What You Can Do
There are many ways you can use the lab to create materials, explore a new tool or learn how to use multimedia software. Many of these tasks can be done during the lab's drop-in hours; others require that you schedule an appointment in advance.
Drop-in lab usage
In most cases, we can provide support for the following tasks during our drop-in hours. Our trained staff of student assistants can help you:
- scan images from prints, slides or negatives
- scan text using optical character recognition
- convert paper documents to electronic form
- capture and edit audio or video
- prepare materials for distribution from Duke's streaming servers
- produce CDs and DVDs of audio and video material that can be used for delivery of course materials, projection in a classroom or backup purposes
By appointment
Some projects cannot be accommodated during drop-in hours due to their complexity or the need to set up special equipment or software in advance. In these cases, our student assistants may ask you to request a meeting with a CIT consultant to discuss your plans in more detail prior to using the lab.
