 Service or program spotlight

Faculty Learning Community about Teaching Interdisciplinary Courses at Duke
http://cit.duke.edu/help/funding/flc.do
Brief applications due 1/5/2007
Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs) are opportunities for a group of faculty to work together researching a teaching-related topic and building their knowledge and skills related to that topic. Interdisciplinary teaching is a strong theme in the new Duke strategic plan; therefore, the Spring 2007 FLC is focused on teaching interdisciplinary courses. The intent of the FLC is to provide a venue for faculty interested in and/or experienced in teaching these types of courses to develop best practices and recommendations for their colleagues at Duke, based on the literature and their own experience. The outcomes of the FLC should be useful to other faculty who are developing and teaching interdisciplinary courses in the future.

Materials Development Mini-Grants

 http://cit.duke.edu/help/funding/funding.do
These small grants will provide help creating course materials. The application form will be available online soon, but in the meantime faculty wishing to request help should email cit@duke.edu with the subject line "Materials Development request." Include in the email as much detail as possible about what needs to be developed, the timeline for completion, etc.

Breaking news

New film copyright ruling will benefit faculty
http://www.dukenews.duke.edu/2006/12/copyright.html
This Duke News article describes a recent exemption to the DMCA, which allows a slightly more broad use of digital video in teaching. For consulting on this and other aspects of copyright and scholarly communications, as they impact the teaching and research work of faculty, please contact the Libraries' Scholarly Communications Officer Kevin Smith at cit@duke.edu or kevin.l.smith@duke.edu.
