Duke Webfiles
http://www.oit.duke.edu/comp-print/storage/webfiles/
This new online service available to Duke students, faculty and staff makes it easy for you to store and manage important files online by providing 5 GB of personal file space. For teaching or collaboration, there is shared file space for collaborating with groups, including ready-made group space for your courses. This can be used for collaboration on webpages, sharing files and distributing large files to your students. Webfiles also gives you the ability to control access rights for directories and groups you manage, and provides personal video streaming via "DukeStream Personal."
World Mapper and Mapdango
http://www.worldmapper.org/ and http://www.mapdango.com
World mapper is a collection of world maps, resized according to the subject of interest. This resource is useful for looking at any issues from a global perspective. If you'd like to explore one region in more detail, there's Mapdango - a map mashup that brings together maps, flickr pictures, wikipedia entries, events and weather.
Connecting students with experts for feedback on student work
http://cit.duke.edu/ideas/projects/2007/11/02/readers-in-the-field/
Cary Moskovitz (University Writing Program) has been using the concept of "think aloud" responses in his writing courses, getting professionals in various fields at Duke to record comments and feedback on student papers using iPods. Students gain valuable insight from a reader familiar with the subject area of the paper and gain a better sense of ownership of their writing in a "real world" situation. Moskovitz is working with CIT to expand this concept this spring.
