CIT Year In Progress

A rolling view of milestones and accomplishments throughout the academic year.

2008-09 Year in Progress

 Strategic Initiatives

Duke Digital Initiative

Supported by the Office of the Provost, the 2008-09 Duke Digital Initiative offered expanded support for video production and collaboration tools to encourage students and faculty to integrate rich media into courses and co-curricular learning. CIT consultants worked with faculty who received grants or loans of hardware (Flip cameras, standard video cameras, tablet PCs, and webcams) and software (iMovie, Quicktime Pro, and screen recording software). In Fall 2008, DDI supported at least 135 faculty, 578 students and more than 100 courses.

The Link in Perkins Library

CIT provided orientation and ongoing consultation services for faculty teaching in the new Link clasrooms in Fall 2008, as well as intensive support to a smaller group of faculty through our Flexible Learning Spaces semester-long fellowship program (May 2008 - Dec 2008). CIT will also provide support for faculty teaching in the Link during Spring 2009 including consultations and monthly meetings to encourage cross-disciplinary communication and collaboration among faculty teaching in this facility.

Shawn Miller (ATC for Social Sciences) serves as CIT's liaison to the Link Services Team, which develops policies, evaluates special requests, and supports Link planning and operations. Yvonne Belanger served on a Link assessment team with staff and faculty from across campus; their report is available on the Link web site.

Link Service Desk

The Service Desk, staffed by OIT and Arts & Science, offers classroom support to faculty teaching in the Link as well as a broad range of services to the campus community.
