Teaching Triangles: Peer Observation & Feedback

This program is for graduate students who are currently teaching a course or leading a section as a TA. Participants form multi-disciplinary triads to observe each others’ teaching and interaction in their classrooms, reflect on the observation experience, and share these reflections with their partners and other participants in the workshop.  Participation in this workshop includes guidance in giving and receiving constructive feedback on teaching, and allows you to formulate a plan for enhancing your own teaching.

Teaching IDEAS

Instructional Development for Excellence And Success.  This annual workshop series is open to Duke faculty, staff, postdocs, and PhD students. Each speaker will draw upon his or her own experience to address topics relevant to classroom teaching, dealing with students, or faculty life and career paths. Current schedule available at  http://www.gradschool.duke.edu.

Preparing Future Faculty Program

The Graduate School's PFF program allows Ph.D. students and postdocs who are selected as Fellows to participate in a year-long experience that includes professional mentoring by a faculty member from a nearby partner institution (Durham Tech, Elon, Guilford, Meredith, NCCU).  Fellows also attend site visits to nearby cluster campuses in order to learn about academic governance, faculty roles and responsibilities, and the path to tenure. Each Fellow proposes a set of learning goals with his/her Mentor that may include opportunities to teach occasionally, to attend departmental meetings, to conduct mock interviews, or other related activities.
