Training
CIT offers several training and development options for faculty interested in learning more about instructional technologies:
Scheduled workshops and events
See the Events section of our website.
Custom training sessions
CIT can provide custom training on various instructional technologies and teaching topics for groups of 5 or more faculty, in our facility or in your department. Some sample topics:
- effective use of student groups,
- giving engaging classroom presentations,
- using Blackboard to meet your course goals,
- course design for high student learning,
- using online activities in your course,
- visual resources at Duke,
- introduction to iPads (attendees must have their own iPads),
- using technologies such as RSS, Evernote, and online bookmarking to manage information efficiently,
- using student e-portfolios effectively,
- and more.
To request a custom training session, please contact us.
Office Visits
Office visits are personalized training sessions for one or two faculty members, usually provided in faculty offices by CIT consultants. Office visit lengths vary as needed to meet faculty needs for convenient, personalized training, but are typically one hour long.
Request office visits using our online form. If you don’t see the topic you want on the form, feel free to request it in the comments section and we will review your request.
Consultation
Faculty who would like a consultation about a particular project or teaching idea (rather than training on a specific tool or technique) should email CIT and request a consultation with one of our Academic Technology Consultants.
*A note about CIT reporting
When you meet with CIT for a consultation or an office visit, the content of your discussions with us is confidential. We do include the meeting or appointment in our contact counts, which are used in various reports we create yearly about CIT work by department.
