Overview

What Is It?

Blackboard includes a test manager tool that provides a "wizard" type interface to guide instructors step-by-step through the process of creating an online graded quiz or test, as well as ungraded self-assessments. Tests permit instructors to assign point values to each question on exams or quizzes.

How Does It Work?

The Blackboard 6.3 instructors manual and Blackboard@Duke Help site describe how the Test Manager works. The Instructor creates a test and makes it available to students via the Test Manager in the Control Panel. When a Student completes a Test it is submitted for grading and the results are recorded in the Gradebook.

Uses as an Instructional Technology

Online testing can enable instructors to gauge students' learning quickly and efficiently. Automated grading can be a big time-saver for instructors of large classes. In addition, online testing tools used in an ungraded mode provide students with valuable opportunities to self-assess their learning, identify misunderstandings more quickly, focus on key concepts, and improve student performance on subsequent graded in-class assignments.
