The SMART Board is a touch sensitive display that connects to a computer and or digital projector to show computer images and applications, documents, and notes in digital ink. A user may use his or her finger, pen or mouse to navigate on the display, the same way as you would navigate using a computer mouse. The digital ink lets the user writeon the display, over applications, and computer screenshots.
You may capture screenshots from the board and save them as printouts, or save a digital copy for editing or save directly into several software applications such as PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and AutoCAD.
SMART Boards are used by instructors to demonstrate or make interactive notes combining computer applications with hands on knowledge creating engaging media rich material. The SMART Boards effectively allow instructors to teach students using a variety of different resources, combining different learning objects to enhance the classroom learning environment using the display as a single focus point. The ability to annotate video, spreadsheets, computer applications, web pages, notes, pdfs, and more allow for a dynamic learning experience.
SMART Boards uses the SMART Board software, and Notebook whiteboarding software with the interactive whiteboard display to combine and connect with computer applications through a USB cable (older models use a serial cable) and draws the power it needs from the computer. The SMART Board driver automatically starts when the computer is turned on, and the interactive whiteboard becomes active once the driver is running.
When you connect a digital projector to your computer, you can project the computer image onto the SMART Board interactive whiteboard.
The SMART Board driver converts contact with the interactive whiteboard into mouse clicks or digital ink. This feature enables you to use your finger as a mouse or write overtop of applications.
