Dreamweaver is a WYSIWYG (pronounced "whiz-ee-wig," standing for "what you see is what you get") Web editor produced by Macromedia Corporation. It is the standard Web editor for Duke and is simple enough for many beginners to use, working at its most basic very much like a word processor. Dreamweaver creates Web pages, which you then upload to a Web server for presentation on the Internet.
CourseBuilder is a free extension for Dreamweaver for creating online quizzes, typically comprised of multiple choice or matching questions. CourseBuilder provides instant feedback to students as to their success or failure.
For most of the tasks that Dreamweaver and CourseBuilder can handle, we have a campus tool that is both easier and quicker to use: Blackboard. For basic quizzes and surveys, Blackboard can do the same kind of things the Dreamweaver-CourseBuilder combination can. Essentially, you should consider using Blackboard for simple online assessments unless you need some of the more advanced features that CourseBuilder provides.
In CourseBuilder, you can create a number of interactive exercises, such as:
Once you choose a type of interaction, there are multiple subtypes you can choose from.

The tabs at the bottom of the window let you tweak all of the possibilities of that particular interaction type.

These exercises can be timed, and the Action Manager allows you to collect results from a set of multiple choice questions, summarize these results, and send a score back to a tracking system.
